Share your video story
Here are some tips and rules
Format
You can write your story in text or make an audio recording or video. If you make a video, you’ll need to upload it to YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, or VideoPress and give us the link. You can add a description, too.
Length
We recommend a maximum of 1,000 words for text and four minutes for audio or video. Shorter is fine, too.
What to include
If you’re not sure what to include, here are some questions you might ask yourself. What happened to you? How did it make you feel at the time? How did you handle it? How do you feel now about it? What do you feel like you’ve learned?
Anonymity
We’ll ask what name you want on your story. You can use your first name, initials, full name, or an alias or nickname. If you leave that part blank, we’ll call you “Anonymous.” If you choose to use your real name, we recommend that you read our article on going public first.
Safety
If safety matters to you, it is safest to avoid specifics in your story. Stay anonymous, don’t name other people, and don’t name the place you worked. There’s another reason not to name other people or even give information that might identify them. Doing this might mean being sued for defamation.
Community standards
We won’t post your story if it contains abusive material, like racism or slurs. Swearing is okay. Explicit descriptions of what happened are okay.
Tags
We’ll ask you to tag yourself (like “Indigenous,” or “trans”). Tags will help people like you find your story. You can skip that part if you want.
How long before your story goes up
Usually it will take a few days, maybe a little longer.
If you change your mind after you submit your story
Just send us a message here and we will delete your story. No questions asked.
Confidentiality
We won’t know anything about you except what’s in your story, unless you give us your email address. It’s optional and you can skip it if you want.
